A weed’s last days

It’s strange to mourn the loss of a weed. I’ll miss this one.  I photographed it on both July 3rd (top) and 4th (below). A storm blew through Brighton early July 5th and toppled a 40′ tree on the shore of the millpond. This weed was uprooted along with it. I photographed it last year, too, so it’s an old friend. On July 28th of last year, it was in about the same blooming stage as it is now, almost three weeks ahead of itself due to the warmer temperatures this year. The tiny flowers are delicate and a beautiful color. There is no larger version of the lower photograph.

Looking like beautiful candelabra at a church service, they should receive total dispensation for being called a weed!
