Santa had smooth landings on the rooftops in Brighton. A couple-three inches of fresh snow protected his sleigh’s runners from being scratched on shingles. The millpond ducks, on the other hand, spent Christmas Eve and Christmas night slipping and sliding on the partially frozen pond and shorelines. They were especially happy to have company Christmas Eve while it was snowing.
My tracks were the only ones along the millpond trail hours after it fell. With little encouragement, 40 ducks skated up the embankment to Corky’s Car Clinic parking lot at the north end to accept a light snack. Willaby flew in then scooted through the snow like a penguin on its belly. How’d he learn to do that so quickly? Christmas night wasn’t much different and, sadly, Santa didn’t bring them slippers or scarves.
Christmas spent at the millpond

I’m enjoying your Christmas pictures. We had a little snow that quickly turned to slush then mud :-(
These collection of ducks on the snow resembles a wreath or star ornament. Sort of like the natural ones made from thistles and twigs you sometimes see at nature centers. Hope you had a nice holiday. I’m still recovering from feeding my family and it didn’t require trudging through snow!!! :-)
Nanina, maybe you should have had your family trudge through the snow and gather their own dinner! :-)
Perhaps I’ll work on taking photos to later assemble a duck wreath with duck chow in the center. It’s a good idea and maybe I can pull it off. It’d be so much easier if ducks would hold positions and follow simple blocking instructions from the artistic director, ya know?
Merry Christmas and all joy in 2013
