I am very saddened to report to this blog’s many readers Doug Peterson passed away June 24, 2016, at about 6:00 PM while undergoing emergency surgery at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor.  Doug’s brother has been notified and will arrive in Brighton within the next couple of days.

We’ve all lost a dear friend.

I am very saddened by this news… Will there be further information on a service and such?… Thank you Don for relaying this sad news to all of us millponders….

I am so sorry about this loss. I love this blog and have enjoyed it tremendously. I have wondered over the last several days if everything was OK with Doug. So sorry to his family and friends. I am going to miss hearing about our friends at Brighton Millpond.

Services will be a decision for Doug’s brother after he arrives. I’ll get out what there is when I know more.

My heart breaks to hear this. I just got to know Doug in person this summer after being a regular reader of his blog. I spoke with him barely a week ago and told him how much I wanted my children to meet him and we looked forward to meeting up again soon. He said ” Oh yes bring them and I will show them around”. How sad we will never have that chance. The Millpond will never be the same without his kindness and compassion for the wildlife and environment. I wish there were more people like Doug looking out for these habitat areas so that people and wildlife can cohabitate. May Doug rest in peace. He will surely be missed.

It is so sad to hear this news. I have been following this blog for a year (from Germany) and have enjoyed swapping duck stories with Doug. Reading this blog is such a joy. He had such a zest for life and a big heart for animals. Someone so special will not be forgotten!

Doug was a unique guy and an amazing human being. I am so sad to hear the news of his passing.

  • Simone says:

Doug was a great person to chat with on my Millpond walks. He would always discuss the intricacies of my fancy camera as I tried to snap photo’s of my children. He always had a handful of duck food for both of my kids and he was such a nice man! Very sad news indeed…..I will miss seeing him around the Mill Pond!!!

  • Melanie Wollenhaupt says:

The Brighton community and the millpond wildlife community has suffered a great loss with Doug’s passing. He will be sorely missed by all. He had a phenominal gift as an artist and was a dedicated naturalist and a compassionate human being to all forms of life. May he rest in peace.

  • Lucy Sullivan says:

Doug was a very kind and generous man. I was so touched by his love of nature and the love he had for his animal friends! Rest in Peace Friend.
