Vapors of mercury light a midnight bench

Most of the photographs I take are at night on walks along the Millpond boardwalk in Brighton, Michigan. While my design work tends to be precise, my photography isn’t. I point and shoot. Sometimes I fiddle with the dials, but most of the time I ignore them. Accuracy isn’t important to me. To pile on the photographic blasphemy, I’ll doctor the images in Photoshop, if I damned well please.

I like this blurry wrought iron bench illuminated by a mercury vapor street light. The neon blue shadows foretell something. I think it warrants a written accompaniment. Go ahead. Tell its story. I might add mine someday, but if you submit one I like, I’ll post it and give you credit.

I think of that Paul Whiteman Oldie, “Deep Purple” pub.1933

When the deep purple falls over sleepy garden walls
And the stars begin to flicker in the sky
Through the mist of a memory you wander back to me
Breathing my name with a sigh
In the still of the night once again I hold you tight
Though you’re gone, your love lives on when moonlight beams
And as long as my heart will beat, lover we’ll always meet
Here in my deep purple dreams
Here in my deep purple dreams”
