… sailors’ delight

May 30th: It’s easy to elicit oohs and aahs with sunset shots. I try not to post trite ones. Thunderheads filled the sky and created “god rays” (top) above the millpond. From minute to minute, the colors morphed as the largest thunderhead headed upward (below, left) and then dissipated. The glowing, rich colors were like the sky with the “Bierstadt Factor” I wrote about on February 15th.

Taking a more unusual photographic approach, I shot the reflections of the sky in the ripples of the millpond and feel it stands well alone as an artistic statement (below).

  • It’s odd,but there is a place in Royal Oak, on the Meijer’s parking lot (or Whole Foods, one mile north in Troy) that very regularly has “God rays” on display. That’s when we tend to do our marketing (the grocery kind), and sometimes it’s so beautiful you have to stop and watch for a while. It is a beautiful planet.
