Fertility Tournaments

Since 2012, Words4It has tabulated duckling hatchings at the Brighton MillPond. Each brood is recorded and monitored throughout their development from first sightings until the young birds fledge, sometimes beyond. The data is relatively accurate during the first two months of life for the ducklings. After that, ducklings often leave their family groups and tracking them becomes much more difficult since the birds often look alike.

Births and family groups of Canada geese are not recorded simply because the birds cannot be easily distinguished from each other. A Mute Swan family resides at the millpond and any cygnets hatched are dutifully presented in blog posts so they are not reported in tournament results.

    Hi Doug,
Just wanted to tell you how much we all enjoyed meeting you June 27th, that night at the Mill Pond. I finally got home to AZ and had a chance to look up your blog. You have a very fun and interesting blog about the mill pond. Thanks. So nice to meet you. My dad and cousin really enjoyed our time with you too, that late Friday night photographing bugs.

Hi Sandy, it was a lot of fun to meet the three of you and chat about June bugs and such. Come back to Brighton soon so we can do it again! In the meantime, I’ll keep posting so you will be well informed when you come to visit again. :-)

    Haha. “Interesting,” huh?
Several people replace that word with “eccentric” including my long departed dad. :-)

I’m content with either description. I enjoyed our chat, and I hope we’ll run into each other at the pond again soon. Thanks for stopping by the blog!

You'll find information about the resident ducks, birds, and critters residing at the Brighton millpond. I slip in my art and poetry, but my photography of wildlife and plants is the primary focus.
